If you follow me on Tweets or have looked at the ‘Changes List’ on my Homepage, you might have seen that I bought a Long Spreadbet on FTSE100 at 6389 late on the Evening of Thursday 26th November 2015 (equivalent to about 20% of my existing Long Exposure via Stocks in my Trading ISA and Spreadbets) and I wanted to do a quick Blog to show my reasoning and to also do a quick glimpse at how the FTSE100 and S&P500 look for the coming Weeks and for December.

One of my Twitter buddies sent me the following Notes he/she made as a result of attending an Equity Development Investor Evening on Thursday 19th November 2015. For various reasons they must remain anonymous but were happy for me to share this with WD Readers - I believe they own Shares in FRP and MTEC.

Diversification - am I enjoying too much of a Good Thing? Part 1 of 3

This is a subject area that has been swirling around my WheelieBrain for many, many months and I feel that a head of steam (explains my headache anyway) is building and I may need to take action to enable my Investing Activities and Results to improve. However, don’t get me wrong, I am having a superb year but I always like to see what I can do to squeeze even more out.

To be quite frank (no you’re not, your name’s Wheelie !!) at this precise point in time I don’t really have a complete answer to my Question although I am sensing some Tweaks to my Portfolios that may get me nearer to where I probably need to be. This Blog hopefully will explore the issues and the process of doing so will help drive me to the right Decision - maybe Readers will even benefit as they can consider their own Portfolios in light of the topics explored.

Sainsburys SBRY Topup Buy Rationale

You might have noticed that I picked up some more Sainsburys SBRY shares on Monday 16th November at 242p for my Income Portfolio - so they now make up about 10% of the Income Portfolio exposure.

I had been weighing up whether or not to buy more SBRY for a while and was sort of dithering because obviously the Sector faces some challenges at the moment. However, my Decision was forced a bit because I wanted to buy more Shares in something following the Terrorist Attacks in Paris on Friday 13th November - because if everyone Sells when the Market re-opens after the Weekend then we are letting them scare us and surrender to their vile intentions.

As usual on a Sunday Night, I wanted to look at the Indexes and get a view on where things are most likely to go in coming Weeks. Obviously the horrific events in Paris on Friday could have an impact on the Markets, particularly the French CAC40 and perhaps the German DAX. However, because the attacks happened out of Market Hours and with a Weekend for reflection, we might not get the kind of panic selling which probably would occur if this kind of Terrorist attack occurred whilst Markets were open.

Targets - helping improve your Aim - Part 3 of 3

Monitoring Targets
Targets should not be seen as a one-off, static, thing. In my daily Investing Activities, my Targets are under almost constant review. The review period is up to Readers but I would suggest a minimum of at least a Weekly Review. I suppose if you are a very busy person and very much a Passive Investor, then maybe once a fortnight is right for you but that seems a long time to me and a lot can change fast.

My approach is that every Night I ‘plonk’ (on ShareScope you hit the Space Bar to get to the next Chart) through my Charts for each Stock I hold using ShareScope (these are the Charts you see in my Blogs) and I am constantly thinking about Targets. For example, if I have only bought a Stock recently and it has not done a lot, I don’t obsess too much about reviewing my Target - but I always have a Target typed into a Spreadsheet for each Stock when I buy them and I use the ShareScope ’Notes’ boxes to put the Target clearly on each Graph.

As ever, I am tight for time so I decided to do a short Blog which just explains the thinking behind the 2 Buys I did on Friday 6th November.

Telecom Plus TEP Topup
I already hold a lot of TEP in my Income Portfolio ISA and I have been watching them for what seems like ages in order to add a little more to a Spreadbet Position that I have on them, I am pretty Bullish on the Markets and I want to have full exposures to good Stocks where I can and I felt the TEP Position was a bit small.

Back on Thursday 29th October 2015, I added to my Aviva AV. Position with a Spreadbet at 490p and now have a nice chunky Stake. I won’t do a huge Blog here but just a quick glimpse of my thinking behind the Buy.

At a High Level, you may have seen comments from me on the Website and on Tweets that I think it is a good idea to really pile into the Markets in a big way to take advantage of the Historically strongest period of the Year - i.e the Winter and in particular December (please, please can we have a lovely Santa Rally?)

Earlier today I was talking to someone on Twitter about Quantum Pharma QP. which they were thinking of Buying. Anyway, as with all these things, the first action by me was to quickly go to my ADVFN Fone App (which is simply brilliant by the way, and FREE) and to have a look at the Chart - that is always a very simple way of screening things in or out for me. In simple terms, I want to buy Stocks in Uptrends.

I hadn’t originally intended on doing a Blog for this Topup but a request from a Reader made me think it was worth bashing something out as this is a great example of how I add to Winners to ensure I maximise the opportunity within each Position I hold. Note I have already Topped Up on TTR once and I have now done so again - ‘Push the Position’ as Traders would say.

The Key Concept here is that you must ‘Add to Winners and Starve the Losers‘……..
