I have felt for some time that Readers are struggling a bit with how the WD Websites are structured and this makes it hard for them to find stuff. I have realised this from comments people make and this has driven me to try to explain it simply via a Blog so Readers can get a lot more out of the Sites. I know people dislike the layout of the Websites changing so I promise I will not change how they are structured very much and if I ever do make some significant changes, then I will try to explain them very well. At the time of scribbling this I do not foresee any such changes (to be honest it is a pain in the backside for me as well so I am in no rush to change stuff !!).
My plan is to put a Link to this Blog near the Top of the Homepages so Readers can quickly refer to it if need be and of course any new Readers should find it useful.
High Level Structure
There are 2 Websites and each one has 10 Pages – I tend to refer to them as WD1 and WD2 and occasionally I might call WD1 my ‘Main’ Website. The reason for having two Websites is because Weebly.com allows me up to 5 Free Websites with 10 pages on each (and I get one Blog page on each) and I don’t see the point of spending good money when I don’t have to. The WD Websites are FREE to air and they always will be so I am sure you appreciate that it makes sense for me to keep my costs as low as possible. The two Websites are joined together in several ways; on the Homepage of WD1 there are Buttons at the Top which you can click and they take you to the appropriate page on WD2 and when you are on WD2, you can click a Button which is at the top of each WD2 page which says something like ‘WheelieDealer Main Site’ and obviously that takes you back to WD1. There are also many other linkages such as Links you can click on the ‘Blog Index List’ page which is on WD2 to get to Blogs which actually sit on WD1 (these tend to be the ‘Educational Blogs’). I will explain all this in more detail further on in this Blog. WD1 and WD2 each have their own Blog page and before I started using WD2 in anger, all Blogs sat together on WD1 but more recently I have started to put ‘Educational Blogs’ on WD1 and what I call ‘Weekend Market Blogs’ on WD2. Note I have decided that any Blogs which are more Market or Stock specific will now sit on WD2 and this will mean that at some point soon I will probably change the name of the Blog page on WD2 – I will flag this a lot when I do it. I have decided on this separation simply because it was getting to the stage where there are masses of Blogs on WD1 and with me issuing around 2 Blogs every week the problem was growing quickly !! By splitting them out I should avoid filling up the ‘Blog Categories’ too much. In terms of the naming convention for the Websites, the addresses are hopefully quite straightforward because the only difference is the addition of a ‘2’ for WD2 (if there is ever a WD3 then you can probably guess how I will name the address for that one !!), as you can probably see here: www.wheeliedealer.weebly.com www.wheeliedealer2.weebly.com Note, rather than using the Buttons on the Homepage of WD1 (I nearly typed ‘Main Website’ then but I got a grip of myself at the last second !!), you can just go direct using the WD2 address as I have typed above and you can save this in your browser if you like. That is what I do, because believe it or not I have to look at my own Websites a lot because whenever I do any updates or changes I have to make sure that the Websites you see are correctly amended. WD1 Pages I have done a ScreenShot of the top of the Homepage on WD1 and I have clicked the ‘more…’ Dropdown Menu so you can see all the Page Names. If you click on the image it should grow larger if need be.
On my Android Mobile Fone it looks like this and I assume it will be quite similar on an Android Tablet but I have no idea how it will look on that awful Apple stuff that people use – I suspect it will look horrific !!
I will now explain what each of the pages on WD1 contain:
Home This is what I am likely to refer to as the ‘Main Homepage’ from time to time and I know I say this on Tweets and stuff a lot. First off here are the Buttons that get you to the pages which sit on WD2 (we will go into these pages more in a bit). All I have done here is to scroll down a tiny bit from the Image that I showed just above.
I have scrolled down a little bit more for the next Image and this is the ‘Changes List’ which I think is an extremely important part of the Website and I recommend that whenever you are so bored that you decide to go and see what WD has been up to, you have a look at this List which includes everything that is new or has changed on the Websites – and this includes Trades I have done and suchlike (note I have reduced the size of the Website for this Image because I thought it would be more like what you will see !!).
Note that on this Image there is a Search Box just above the ‘Changes List’ and it does what it says on the tin. However, I find that it doesn’t seem to work on my Android Fone and I am not sure why this is (don’t tell me, it works superbly on an iPhone !!).
If you scroll down a bit you then get to this bit in the Image below which is called ‘WheelieDealer Latest News’. To be honest this is a bit of a funny part of the Websites because I don’t actually use it very often but to an extent it is just a parking place for anything which I don’t think fits well anywhere else. It made more sense in the days before I revamped WD2 when I used to put information such as ‘Events’ on here but they now have their own page on WD2. Anyway, if anything new appears here I will flag it in the ‘Changes List’ as always.
Down near the bottom of the Homepage on WD1 there is a Twitter Feed which anyone can see and this captures all Tweets that I put out as they happen. The beauty of this is that even if you don’t have a Twitter Account you can see what garbage I am writing !!
There is also a Twitter Feed like this on WD2 which I will show in a bit.
Trades
This is pretty much as it says. On this page I list all the Trades as they happen and new ones are added to the top of the List. I tend to Tweet the Trades out as soon as I do them and it normally takes me half an hour or so before I update the Website. Sometimes I might only update the ‘Changes List’ with a brief summary of the Trade and then I will update the ‘Trades’ page properly in the evening when I have more time. 2019 and 2018 to an extent have been unusual because I am not trading very much at all – but having said that I can never be described as a Trading Banshee and over time I am leaning more towards a ‘Less is more’ philosophy when it comes to managing my Portfolios. Educational Blogs As I mentioned earlier, up until quite recently all Blogs sat on this page and then I had this amazing brainwave to split out Market and Stock related Blogs onto WD2. Therefore on this page you will find a mixture of Educational and Market/Stock Blogs from previous years but newer ones will now be separated. I hope that makes sense !! The Image below is where I have scrolled down a bit on the Educational Blogs page and on the right you should see the ‘Archives’ heading with all the various Months for previous Years below it. Obviously if you click on these Months then you can find Blogs written at that time.
For the next Image I have scrolled down a bit more and here are the ‘Categories’ on the right-hand side. Again if you click each Category you should find blogs that are related to that topic. Over time I tend to add new Categories but mostly the Blogs I write fit in what I have here.
It has just occurred to me that over time the list of Months under ‘Archives’ is growing and growing and this is part of the reason I started the Blog Page on WD2. Anyway, perhaps this would be a reason to start a WD3 Website – I could have another ‘Educational Blogs’ page on that when the WD1 page gets filled up !!!
Wheelie’s Bookshop This page contains Finance related Books and I am an Amazon Associates Member and I get a small cut for any Books that are bought via the Link embedded in the Book Images. Remember, the WD Website is FREE and if you ever want to add to my essential Beer Fund then buying a Book is a good way to do it. It is all quite self-explanatory and above the images of the Books I usually have written a few words or perhaps I have put a Link to a Blog I have written which will be an in-depth Review in many cases. M3 Manifesto This page in essence explains the basic elements of how I go about doing things. It grew out of a series of Blogs I wrote and there are Links on this page to those Blogs and it will probably help Readers figure out their own Approach if they are new to Long Term Investing and if they are quite experienced already it might help them tweak how they do things etc. I think there is a lot of highly valuable information on this page. Portfolios This is really another self-explanatory Page. This contains full details on my ‘Income Portfolio’ and what I hold in my ‘Trading ISA Portfolio’ which is actually quite badly named and at some point in time I might get a grip and give it a more appropriate moniker (I am not a ‘Trader’, I am an ‘Investor’ so the inaccuracy of the name is blatant). WheelieBin / WheelieWatchlist The first bit of this Page, the WheelieBin, starts off with a comprehensive list of factors which tend to make a Stock a very poor investment and to therefore qualify them for the WheelieBin which contains loads of pretty ropey Stocks that are better suited to Short Term Trading than for serious Long-term Investment. I have not updated the contents of the WheelieBin for a while and it needs serious revisiting when I find the time. The WheelieWatchlist probably needs deleting to be honest. When I first created it about 4 years ago or so for the Website, I envisaged it as a List of really top quality Stocks that I had bought and sold in previous Years but in reality I think the ‘Little Black Book’ which appears on WD2 is actually much more useful for finding interesting Stocks that need proper thorough research. I will have a good think about this and most likely the Watchlist will get deleted in the near future. Non-Finance Books I read a lot of Books which are nothing to do with Markets and Stocks and suchlike and I am very lucky in that I tend to be quite successful at finding Books I enjoy reading and often they are of a historical bent these days. On the odd occasion that I find a Book very rubbish I tend to stop reading it and I won’t add it to the Bookshop but most of the Books I read get shoved in there with a Review of some sort. Hopefully this will give Readers some interesting ideas for Books to read and of course if you buy any via the Amazon Links then I get a small sum from them which helps to keep the WD Beer Fund nicely topped up. Beginners As the name suggests, my intention here is to have a Page on the Websites that people who are totally new to Investing/Trading can go to in order to get some idea of where to start. The essence of the Page is a fairly long list of things to do in order to get going and right at the top there is a Link to a Blog I wrote about how to open an Account for the first time. Again this is a page that probably needs updating a bit but the information on it is mostly still valid. Weekly Performance At the top of this Page there is a picture of the FREE eBook that Michael Taylor wrote and if you click on the image I think it takes you to his ‘Shifting Shares’ Website where you can get a copy. It is a very good read and I recommend it to anyone who has not come across it before. It is FREE so you would be bonkers not to. Underneath this I try to do an update every month on how my Portfolio performed for the previous month and I break this down to the Weekly level. I also write a load about Strategy and any other stuff that springs to mind and further down I have a load of text that has been quite enduring which mulls over the complex and puzzling Financial Environment the World seems to be engrossed in for recent Years and I amend this text from time to time. WD2 Pages I have done a ScreenShot of the top of the Homepage on WD2 and I have clicked the ‘more…’ Dropdown Menu so you can see all the Page Names. If you click on the image it should grow larger if need be.
On my Android Mobile Fone it looks like this and I assume it will be quite similar on an Android Tablet but I have no idea how it will look on that vile Apple stuff that people use.
I will now explain what each of the pages on WD2 contain, but remember you can get to each of these pages either by going direct to the WD2 Homepage or by going to the WD1 Homepage and then clicking on the appropriate Button for the page you want to get to.
Who is the WheelieDealer? Well, I’ve no idea who I am. I guess I’m me if that helps clear things up. Near the top of this WD2 Homepage there is an embedded Twitter Feed so Readers who are not on Twitter as such can look at this to see what I am Tweeting out. I put out a massive amount of information on the Tweets and anyone who is only reading my Websites is probably missing out on a lot of useful stuff. I tend to talk about individual Stocks a lot on the Tweets. Below this there is actually quite a good page of information which talks about things like what my Investing style is at a high-level, why I started the Website and the whole WD nonsense, what my Work history etc. has been and stuff like that. If you have not read it you might find it enlightening and down the bottom of that page there is a link to a Blog Series I did called ‘Evolution of an Investor’ which is very detailed on how my Investing ‘Career’ has progressed. Funds This page goes into what Funds are and explains the various different types such as Unit Trusts, Tracker Funds, ETFs, Investment Trusts etc. I am sure new Investors in particular will find this page very useful. Unfortunately I have not done much to this page and it is perhaps an area I could pay more attention to in the future although it is all about balancing the time constraints upon me. Weekend Markets Blog As I mentioned earlier in this Blog, I only introduced this Page fairly recently when I decided to power up WD2 and change the layout of both the WD1 and WD2 Websites to more effectively split out the various chunks of information that can be found. Initially my intention was just to put the Blogs that I write pretty much every Sunday Night onto this Blog Page but since that I have decided that anything more Stock or Markets related will go here and stuff that is more of an Educational nature will go on the WD1 Blog Page. My Weekend Blogs tend to follow a common format that I have gradually coalesced to over the years and the main bits are some sort of general spiel about the Markets followed by how I did in the previous Week and along with some other stuff which could be more of an admin nature. I include loads of Charts regarding the Indexes and at the time of writing this I am fixated on the FTSE100 and the S&P500 because I have Short Positions on them. If I had more time I would love to cover more Stocks in the Charts bit but of late I have been unable to do this. Sometimes I do slip a Stock in and perhaps the most useful aspect of these Blogs is to help your understanding of how to read Charts and how to apply the simple Technical Analysis concepts that I use. The ScreenShot below is intended just to show where the Archives and Categories sections can be found.
Little Black Book
I mentioned this Page earlier and this contains pretty much an exact transcript of an actual real live Notebook that I use to write down interesting ideas that I trip over and I actually use this information myself to look for new Stocks to research with a possible view to buying. Readers might find this useful simply for the Ideas it contains but they might also find it quite educational with regards to particular factors I look out for in what I think could make a good Stock for Investment. It depends on how the Markets are going to an extent, but I probably update this every few weeks and I put a date on each Entry so Readers get an idea of when I wrote it down. The time is not all that critical though, it is more about the idea and Readers can look at the Stock when they see it on my List and take a view with regard to whether or not if still represents decent value at the time they are looking at it. Peer-2-Peer Lending My friend Phil Sloan wrote some Guest Blogs for me about this interesting Investment class and they are well worth reading to expand your understanding. It is also interesting because the Sector has evolved over time and it turns out that the higher risk ones have not stood the test of time but the more solid ones like Zopa still seem to be doing ok. It is clearly an area where caution is needed and I suggest that they should only every be a small part of someone’s overall Portfolio. Useful Links There is all sorts of stuff on this Page. It has Links to great Websites and Free Tools and suchlike and to be honest you need to just look through it and click some Links and see what you find !! Blog Index List Every single Blog I publish gets an Entry on this List and I also embed a Link which will take you to the Blog in question. Previously this List did not include Links and I took several weeks a while ago to go through and Link up all of the Educational Blogs but I did not link to the historic Weekend Markets Blogs because they have more of a time element and Linking them up is a laborious and time-consuming task. However, from a certain point in time all Blogs I issue do have Links put on them. Events To an extent this Page is a bit of a catch-all where I tend to write about Investing Events that I am attending and of course the big one each year is The WheelieBash which tends to take place in early September just outside Windsor. I try to do smaller ‘Meet-up’ Events over the Summer where we visit a Museum or something like that and these have turned out to be excellent opportunities for a load of us to meet up and I really enjoy organising them. Further down the page there are pictures from previous WheelieBashes and from various Meet-ups we have had. When a new Event is coming along I tend to mention it in my Weekend Markets Blog first – this is what I meant by ‘admin’ type stuff !! Podcasts In more recent times the entries on this page tend to be Links to the latest TPI (Twin Petes Investing) Podcasts that I create with @Conkers3. We aim to do these fairly regularly and they are worth watching out for and after some initial problems with sound quality we seem to have now got to the stage where we have no such issues. We cover all sorts of stuff on them and usually there is a chunk that has a time-specific element to it but then we discuss more general Educational topics as well. We try to make them relaxed and informal and it is a bit like you are listening in to the two of us having a chat down the pub !! (we might well be a bit tipsy at the time of recording as well !! I blame the stage fright). This page also has links to several other Podcast things I have been involved with in the past as well which Readers might still fund useful. Twitter Feed / Videos I used to have the Videos on the same page as the Podcasts but I recently decided to separate them out because I felt they were getting a bit lost although they are extremely good I think (that’s not just me saying it and being cocky, I am going by the feedback many people have fed my way over the years). From memory there are two main sets of Videos on there which have been recorded professionally and have been broken down into nice manageable chunks – well worth a look. This page also has a Twitter Feed embedded again so Readers can go here to see what I am gibbering on about on the Tweets even if you don’t have a Twitter Account. And that pretty much covers the total dross you will find on my Websites !! Happy searching. Cheers, WD.
