Private Investor Websites

A continuing mantra you will hear and read from me is around the value that talking to other experienced Private Investors and Traders can provide. In addition, I find this is widely under-appreciated and it is probably the biggest source of Learning that I undertake these days. Indeed, undertaking the TPI Podcasts venture and being able to discuss countless aspects of Investing with someone as talented and successful as @Conkers3 is a huge help to my thinking with regards to how I go about things.

This can be on different levels - probably the main focus for me is to hear the techniques and methods other Investors use and these discussions bring ideas for potential ways in which I can tweak how I go about things in order to improve my Results. On another level, and probably of less interest to me, are the views of other Investors with regards to which Stocks they are invested in and what their take on certain Stocks is. Of course this can be hugely dangerous because it is immensely ‘Noisy’ Information and I won’t just listen to any old Tom, Dick or Fred and there are only a limited group of Investors who I do take notice of on particular Stocks and I perk my Ears up when they give an opinion. Screening out less useful opinions is of course difficult and it is only over time with experience that you can find out who is worth listening to and who just adds to your Noise levels - yet again a situation where there are few alternatives (if any) to actually going through the motions and doing your ‘time’ in the Markets.

Of course it is quite difficult for many People to meet up with other Investors due to time commitments and life in general but there are some excellent ways you can get access to them via things like Twitter, some Bulletin Boards, Podcasts and of course, the one I am really focusing on here, Websites/Blogs that they write. To help you head in the right direction, here is a List of very good Websites that are run by Private Investors, rather than the usual ‘Financial Service Industry’ fodder which rarely has active Investors involved in it and in many cases has an Editorial Line or Agenda which is being rammed down your throat. Many of the people who run these Websites I know personally and in all cases I recommend you have a look at them and see what is available. In addition you obviously have the superb ‘Naked Trader’ Website but I won’t add this one to the List because you will no doubt know of this one already.

In a similar vein there are Websites for more specific purposes which are run by excellent Private Investors and I would include the ShareSoc Website, AIM Prospector Magazine, the Mello Events one, DIYInvestor Magazine, the Blackthorn Focus Events Website and the superb piworld.co.uk in amongst these. In addition there are loads of Oil and Metals related ones but these are not something which I delve into much these days so I am no qualified to say much about them and I’ll let Readers tiptoe through that particular minefield themselves !!

Initially I have published this as a Blog so that Readers are made fully aware of its existence but my intention is to copy it onto the ‘Useful Links’ page where it will remain forever and in theory I will update it from time to time…..(actually I just thought about this and I will simply shove a Link to this Blog on the ‘Useful Links’ page as that will be a lot easier for me).

  • Stock Whittler - This is an excellent Website that has emerged in the last couple of Years and I have met Bill the chap who writes it and I talk with him quite often on the Tweets. He is a very experienced and successful Investor and also does the odd bit of Short Term Trading kind of thing. His ‘Voyager Log’ is well worth reading (and you don‘t have to be a Trekkie although I did feel a few times last year that “the Market is breaking up Captain, I cannae hold her“ - that‘s my best Scottish accent by the way):

http://stockwhittler.weebly.com/

  • British Investor - The next one is run by a guy called Chriss and he has produced some really good Educational Material on here and written about many Stocks. What makes it particularly interesting is that he has only been Investing really seriously for the last 3 Years or so which makes it quite a useful read for people who are relatively recent to the Markets as Chriss highlights his successes and failures for all to see. He works full time and as a result it is only updated when he has something to publish but it is well worth reading:

https://thebritishinvestor.com/

  • Compound Income - is run by a chap called Jamie who used to be a Fund Manager for many years and he has been doing his Website for a long time now and if you go into the history of his Performance his record is extremely strong. As the name implies, he is very much an old-fashioned guy and he looks for dividend paying quality Stocks. He is well worth following on Twitter as are the other people who run the Websites on this List:

https://www.compoundincome.org/

  • JESL - don’t ask me what the Acronym stands for, but I know Jon very well having indulged in many a Beer with him and he is someone who has been Investing for certainly most of his adult life and he has considerable business experience from working as a Senior Accountant at Director level in a multitude of difference Companies and Sectors. It is a really good Website particularly for getting Jon’s views on various Stocks and he comes at things very much from the ‘Value Investor‘ viewpoint:

https://jeslinvestments.weebly.com/

  • John’s Investment Chronicle - this is written by John Rosier and is mostly a Monthly Subscription thing but there is quite a bit of Free material and of course you can read John’s Monthly column in the ‘Investors Chronicle’ if you get that mag. John is a really knowledgeable guy and again I think he was a Fund Manager in a former life. He has done several Videos with piworld.co.uk which are well worth seeing and you can access those for Free:

http://johnsinvestmentchronicle.com/

  • Briefed Up - this one is run by another bloke called Jon (it is not essential for Investing that you are called Jon by the way…..) and you may have come across him in another context as ‘Matylda’. This is almost purely about Stocks and he does a ‘Morning Brief’ where he quickly assesses many Company RNS Announcements and summarises this which is hugely useful:

https://briefedup.com/

  • Conkers3.com - I am in little doubt that you will be aware of Peter who runs this Website as he is my Podcast Partner on the TPI Podcasts (skip over to my ‘Podcasts/Videos’ page for more details on where you can listen to these) and this is a rich source of information of various types but the bit I would particularly point you towards are the Interviews he has recorded with an impressive list of Private Investors and some quality Fund Managers and Financial Service Industry participants as well:

https://www.conkers3.com/

  • Trading Bases - this one is a bit different to most of the others on this List because it is much more ‘Trader’ focussed and I see this as one of the best Websites out there if you are interested in being more of a Trader than a Long Term Investor. Jason runs this Website and it has a Monthly Subscription thing but there is a lot that is Free and Jason’s Tweets as @Stealthsurf are well worth reading. He very much follows the Mark Minnervini approaches and I love his systematic and no-nonsense approach although for me personally it is a bit too ‘mechanical’ and removes much of the ‘Art’ of Investing although that is arguably a good thing !!

https://www.tradingbases.co.uk/

  • 7circles - this one is also a bit different because it is much more about Funds and the Investment universe in general although Mike does cover Stocks in there as well. As with the other Websites in this List Mike is a very experienced Investor and this is well worth looking at if you are considering going more down the Funds route etc:

https://the7circles.uk/

  • FIRE v London - FIRE means ‘Financial Independence Retire Early’ and I do not know the chap who writes this particularly although I have chatted with him on the Tweets a few times. I have often read his pieces and it is well worth a look:

https://firevlondon.com/

  • Private Punter - I don’t think Martin has a specific Website of his own but he regularly writes in the Cambridge News and you can find him on Twitter. He is a hugely successful Investor and what he writes about individual Stocks is always worth reading:

https://muckrack.com/martin-flitton

  • Maynard Paton - this chap writes for SharePad now as well as keeping his own Blog going and it is really valuable for People who invest in Small Stocks in particular. I might be wrong on this but I think Maynard is Accountancy trained and his articles are very much focused around the numbers side of things. I have provided a Link for his own Blog and also for his SharePad writings:

https://maynardpaton.com/

https://knowledge.sharescope.co.uk/maynard-paton/

  • Richard Beddard - Richard is someone else worth reading although I am not sure where best to point you to find his stuff. He writes for SharePad and Interactive Investor but I don’t think he has his own Website. Here is his Page from SharePad:

https://knowledge.sharescope.co.uk/richard.beddard/

  • Paul Scott and Graham Neary write a Daily review of various Small Cap Stocks on Stockopedia in their ‘Small Cap Value Report’. Paul is a highly experienced Investor and has been writing this column for a long time and has recently been joined by Graham who is also well worth reading. You can find their stuff here and the ‘Comments’ bit is worth a look as well:

https://www.stockopedia.com/columns/paul-scotts-uk-small-cap-value-report-1/

  • Tabhair.com - this one is a bit unusual to most of the other Websites on this List because in this case I don’t remember having many discussions with the author - however, I have read the Posts quite often and generally I like what I read and often the Tweets are worth looking at - have a butchers as you might find it useful:

https://tabhair.com/

  • Share Knowledge - this one is very good and run by Simon who you can find on the Tweets as @BrilliantLeader (without doubt the most modest Twitter Handle ever !! From memory I think it is a judo thing or some sort of martial arts thing so I am just saying how I agree and it is truly brilliant !!). You can check it out here:

http://share-knowledge.org.uk/about/

  • Talking Stocks - this is not really a Website (in fact it is in no way a Website !!) but Dave Sullivan records Youtube Videos which investigate various Stocks and stuff and his creations are really useful. For the time being with the Markets so soggy and clearly in a bit of a funk, Dave has not been recording any new ones but the Archive is very good and once things pick up I am sure Dave will start doing them again. You can find his Youtube Channel here and he is on Twitter as @DSully8786:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa43U4itU9inSylS2fj2FdQ

  • traderdiary.co.uk - this is quite a new Website and it is run by James who has written a few Guest Posts on my Website (go to the ‘Category’ ‘Guest Blogs’ and you should be able to find them) and he is very tuned into Short Term Trading and is a prolific Tweeterer - well worth keeping an eye on:

http://www.traderdiary.co.uk/

  • Investors Champion - I really like the stuff I have read on this Website although I haven’t really spoken to the guy who runs it, Chris Boxall. Anyway, I hear a lot of other Private Investors who sing Chris’ praises and that counts for a lot. From what I understand much of this is Free and there is a Premium bit you can subscribe for as well. There seems to be some specialism in Inheritance Tax (IHT) Planning that many Readers might find helpful:
